Real Club de Sotogrande Golf

Designed by one of the world’s most celebrated course architects, the late Robert Trent Jones, Real Club de Sotogrande Golf offers a round of golf you’ll never forget, in a location that never fails to impress even the most frequent of visitors.

In 1965, the club played host to its first major tournament, the Spanish Open Championship, which was played by a wealth of Europe’s top golfers and won by Roberto de Vincenzo with a fantastic 279 strokes. Since then, the Real Club de Sotogrande Golf has welcomed hundreds of internationally renowned golfers looking to attempt a hole-in-one at one of the Costa del Sol’s most prestigious clubs.

The par-72, 18-hole course is situated on the picturesque banks of the Guadiaro River, close to the golden, sandy beaches and the trendy Sotogrande Marina. It measures approximately 6.304 metres and was the first in Europe to be seeded with Bermuda 419 turf grass and installed with an automatic irrigation system. Golfers of all handicaps can enjoy wide, immaculately maintained fairways and elevated greens.

After your game, head for the exquisite club house, which was built in 1965 by the architect, Luis Gutierrez Soto. It boasts some of the best cuisine from his native Guipúzcoa – sumptuous seafood dishes, fabulous fish and a wide variety of Mediterranean vegetables. Wash it down with some of the finest wines from around the region to perfectly round off your day.

HANDY HINTS:

  • Players need to ensure accuracy as around 70 of the course’s 100 bunkers are located on the greens. Holes 4 and 7 are perfect examples – difficult pars or easy bogeys? You decide.
  • The wind and numerous lakes provide a challenge for golfers of any level.
